Freelance Pilot Opportunities in Private Aviation

Real missions.
Matched to your type and experience.

Freelance and contract pilot work in private aviation still largely moves through personal networks, operator shortlists, and word of mouth. It works for some, until an operator you don't know needs coverage in a region you haven't flown — and there's no structured way to be found.

EDAERO gives pilots one profile — aircraft experience, type ratings, licence and medical documentation, availability — that operators searching for PIC and SIC coverage can actually find and match against, worldwide.

What Matters for Matching

Your profile,
built around what operators actually check.

A stronger profile is a more complete one. These are the factors operators most commonly weigh — for the full regulatory orientation across FAA, EASA, UK CAA, and GCAA frameworks, see Find Private Jet Pilots.

Type Fit

Aircraft Experience

Hours and recency on the specific aircraft type, or a closely comparable one, is typically the first thing an operator checks.

Role Fit

PIC & SIC Experience

Clarity on which role — PIC, SIC, or both — you're qualified and available for streamlines matching considerably.

Aircraft-Specific

Type Ratings

Current type ratings on file, specific to the aircraft, since a rating on one type does not extend to another.

Documentation

Licence & Medical Documentation

Current certificate, applicable ratings, and a valid medical certificate — reviewed as part of your profile before missions are shown.

Currency

Recency & Currency

Up-to-date flight review, proficiency checks, and recent experience — kept current in your profile alongside your licence.

Track Record

International Mission Experience

Cross-border trip experience broadens the missions you're likely to be matched to, though it isn't required to build a profile.

Readiness Factors

Visas, travel,
availability, and positioning.

How EDAERO Matching Works

Mission requirements,
matched to your profile.

Matching depends on a mission's specific requirements and how closely your profile fits them — creating a profile does not itself generate or guarantee mission offers.

01
Mission Posted
An operator submits requirements — aircraft type, PIC/SIC need, dates, and location.
02
Profile Matched
The engine compares your profile against the mission's requirements and ranks fit.
03
Mission Offered
If your profile is a relevant match and you're available, the mission is offered to you directly.
04
Accepted & Confirmed
You accept or decline; once accepted, the mission is confirmed and funds are secured through Secure Mission™.

Frequently Asked Questions

Freelance pilot jobs
— common questions.

Does creating a profile guarantee I'll receive mission offers?+
No. Matching depends on operator mission requirements and how closely your profile fits them — including aircraft experience, type ratings, location, availability, and documentation. EDAERO does not guarantee missions, work, or income.
Am I an independent contractor if I fly missions through EDAERO?+
Worker classification and engagement structure depend on the applicable law and the specific terms of each engagement, and can vary by jurisdiction and mission. EDAERO does not determine employment or contractor classification on your behalf — this is addressed in the terms provided during onboarding.
Can I join if I'm transitioning from airline flying to private aviation?+
Yes. Pilots may move professionally between airline and business/private aviation, but airline experience alone does not establish eligibility for a particular business-aviation operation. Eligibility depends on the applicable licensing, aircraft qualification, recency/currency, operator, and regulatory requirements for the specific operation. Your profile can present airline experience alongside any private-aviation-specific type ratings and training.
Do I need international experience to create a profile?+
No — international experience broadens the missions you may be matched to, but it isn't required to build a profile. Domestic and regional experience is relevant to many missions as well.
How does payment work for accepted missions?+
Once you accept a mission, the required funds are secured through EDAERO's Secure Mission™ payment flow before the mission and released according to the applicable mission terms on completion. Full payment and timing detail is provided during onboarding.
Does EDAERO determine whether I'm qualified for a specific mission?+
No. EDAERO is a technology marketplace, not a regulator. You remain responsible for confirming that your licence, ratings, currency, and medical certification satisfy the requirements applicable to a specific mission and jurisdiction.
